Editorial standards

How Veyra decides what to print

These standards are the working rules of the magazine. They are published because a reader deserves to know what a Veyra byline is worth.

Sourcing

Every factual claim in a reported feature is confirmed by at least two independent sources, or by a document we have seen ourselves. Where a claim rests on a single source, the story says so in the text.

  • Documents are reviewed directly, not summarized by an intermediary.
  • Data we analyze is described in a methods note within the story.
  • Where a source is anonymous, the story explains why and what the source stands to gain or lose.

Anonymity

Anonymity is granted when a source faces a credible risk of retaliation, prosecution, or loss of livelihood — not to spare embarrassment. The decision rests with an editor, never with the writer alone, and the source’s identity is known to at least two people at Veyra.

Right of reply

Any person or organization criticized in a Veyra story is told the substance of that criticism before publication and given a minimum of ten working days to respond. Responses are represented fairly and at reasonable length. A refusal to comment is reported as such, without inference.

Corrections

Corrections appear at the top of the corrected story, dated, describing what was wrong and what is now right. We do not silently edit published text. Typographical fixes are made without notice; anything affecting meaning is not.

Corrections can be reported to corrections@veyra.press and are reviewed by the executive editor.

Independence

Veyra carries no advertising and publishes no sponsored content. Contributors disclose any financial interest in a subject before commissioning, and are reassigned where a conflict cannot be managed. No funder sees a story before publication.

Artificial intelligence

Veyra does not publish machine-written prose under a human byline. Language tools may be used for transcription and for searching our own document sets; every resulting quote is checked against the original recording by a person.
